OUR LEGACY

From its origins as the European Foundation to its present work as the UK Sovereignty Foundation, the organisation has contributed to constitutional and democratic debate in the United Kingdom for more than three decades.

Established as the European Foundation, the organisation’s early work focused on the constitutional implications of European integration and the evolving relationship between national and EU law. Research during this period laid the groundwork for later analysis of sovereignty, legislative authority and democratic accountability.

For over three decades, the Foundation has published research, pamphlets, working papers and journals addressing European integration, parliamentary sovereignty, and democratic accountability.

Today, the UK Sovereignty Foundation incorporates the unique archives of the European Foundation, documenting its engagement with Parliament and the work of the European Scrutiny Committee, on which Sir Bill Cash served from 1984 to 2024 and chaired from 2010.

These archives include editions of The European Journal, a leading source of Euro-realist analysis in the United Kingdom, featuring contributions from respected writers across politics, academia and public life. They also contain a substantial body of pamphlets, reports, working papers and parliamentary materials—including Referendum Bills, amendments and debates—reflecting decades of engagement in promoting the sovereignty of the United Kingdom Parliament and the principle of democratic self-government.

This page presents a curated timeline of key publications and political and constitutional milestones.

Our legacy reflects a consistent mission: advancing parliamentary sovereignty and democratic accountability in the United Kingdom.
